Narin Hassan

Narin

Narin Hassan is Associate Professor in LMC and Director of the MS-Global Media and Cultures. Her research and teaching addresses nineteenth-century literature and culture, gender and postcolonial studies, and the history of medicine. She is also a certified yoga instructor at the advanced 500-hour level, and has studied yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda through a variety of training and workshops. Her current research integrates theories and practices of wellness, self-care, and social justice through a reading of gender, race, and cultures of yoga. She runs a yoga studio in Atlanta and offers complimentary classes and workshops through the WELLMC initiative. She works with the WELLMC team to create programming and social media initiatives related to campus well-being.

 

Jillann Hertel (/Deltejo)

Jillann

Jillann Hertel, MFA is a Senior Academic Professional and Creative Director in LMC and is Founder and Director of the Creative Career Origination Lab (CoLab). She focuses her teaching on developing creatives from academics to work/life.  For undergraduate seniors she explores historical frameworks of work and education, engaging with contemporary research on happiness, and learning and refining student’s self-presentation skills via portfolios, networks, and more. She also teaches a graduate-level portfolio class. Hertel also offers individualized safe-space career consulting sessions to students. She is passionate about equity and social justice and serves on Institute and College committees and she co-founded the interdisciplinary Minor in Social Justice. Hertel also enjoys placemaking for the School, including: forming the undergraduate lounge, creating new outdoor lounge spaces to gather and study, assisting labs with better access and signage, updating several rooms and hallways, creating greater visibility for the arts via hallway displays, events, and a gallery to showcase student work. She works with the WELLMC team to create programming and social media initiatives related to campus well-being.
